Artist Statement

Photography is widely acknowledged as a documentary medium, and some even claim that its documentary aspect is the essence of its nature. For me, though, there is no question that the true magic of photography lays in its expressive potential. Expressive photography is not about recording [events, truth, reality]. It is about exposing [feelings, beauty, surprises] and exploring [possibilities, complexities, subtleties]. When someone asks what kind of photography I do, I often say I am a photographer of feelings, because that's really what I search for in the viewfinder. Exposing and capturing "seen feelings" - emotions that are experienced visually - is the goal of my work.
